Le Pays des Illinois

Old Mines is just one of the many French settlements in the "Pays des Illinois," now Illinois and eastern Missouri.  There's been a French presence in this region since the end of the 17th century, and there are still some incredible sites to be visited (and that can all be visited, actually, over the course of one or two days, if not more).
